Who steps in when the auditor leaves office

If the state auditor dies, quits, becomes ineligible, or is removed or suspended, the auditor's first assistant or first deputy automatically becomes the acting auditor. The acting auditor has the same powers and duties as the regular auditor until a new auditor is appointed.

In the event that the auditor dies, resigns, becomes ineligible to serve, or is removed or suspended from office, the first assistant or first deputy to the auditor shall become the acting auditor until an auditor is appointed pursuant to Article VII, section 10 of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii. The acting auditor shall have all of the powers and duties of the auditor.
