Who pays tuition and other fees at University of Hawaii

The University of Hawaii's board of regents can charge tuition to both Hawaii residents and nonresidents for regular classes at any campus, including community colleges. They can also charge extra fees for special programs, labs, courses, student activities, technology, summer or evening classes, and higher fees for nonresidents.

The statute, as written — Tuition fees; resident, nonresident; other fees

(a) The board of regents may charge resident and nonresident tuition fees for regular courses of instruction at any University of Hawaii campus, including any community college. (b) The board may also charge other fees for special programs of instruction, as well as laboratory fees, course fees, fees for student activities, and an information technology user fee. The board may charge other fees for summer session or evening courses, including differential fees for nonresident students.
