When the state can lower or waive copy fees

This section lets the department reduce or waive the fee for getting copies of public records. It can do this when sharing the information mainly helps the general public. The department decides if the fee should be lowered or removed.

The statute, as written — Copy fee waiver

The fee chargeable under section 92-21 may be reduced or waived if the department determines that a waiver or reduction of the fee is in the public interest because furnishing the information can be considered as primarily benefitting the general public.
