HRS §414D-86

When members must pay dues and fees

A member of a nonprofit corporation may owe money for dues, assessments, or fees. But just having a rule in the articles, bylaws, or a board resolution that says these charges exist does not automatically make the member liable. Liability only arises if something else creates it.

The statute, as written — -86] Member's liability for dues, assessments, and fees

A member may be liable to the corporation for dues, assessments, or fees; provided that the articles or bylaws or a resolution adopted by the board authorizing or imposing dues, assessments, or fees does not, by itself, create liability.
