HRS §431:10-230
When an insurer pays, it is free from further claims
This section says that when a life, accident, or health insurer pays money to the person named in the policy or a written assignment, that payment ends the insurer's responsibility. The insurer is only still responsible if it got written notice of another person's claim before paying.
