HRS §431:10C-112.5

Notice required when an insurer stops selling car insurance

If an insurance company stops selling car insurance in Hawaii, it must tell each policyholder in writing at least 60 days before it closes. This gives you time to find new coverage.

The statute, as written — Notice of cancellation for insurer ceasing to issue motor vehicle insurance policies

Any insurer authorized to issue motor vehicle insurance policies, which ceases to engage in the motor vehicle insurance business in this State, shall give written notice to each insured not less than sixty days prior to the effective date of closing its business.
