No premium increases for accidents you did not cause

This law protects you from paying more for car insurance after an accident that was not your fault. Your insurance company cannot raise your premium or take away discounts because of that accident. It applies to any motor vehicle insurance policy.

The statute, as written — Increase in premiums prohibited

No premium on any motor vehicle insurance policy shall be increased as a result of any accident if the insured is not at fault in the accident. An accident in which the insured was not at fault shall not be used in any way to affect any subsequent increases, including loss of any discounts, in insurance premiums.
