Penalty for unlicensed motor vehicle dealing

This section says that anyone who breaks the motor vehicle dealer rules or works as a dealer, salesperson, auction, manufacturer, or distributor without a license has committed a misdemeanor. The punishment can be a fine, jail time, or both.

The statute, as written — Misdemeanor

Any person who is convicted of violating any provision of this chapter or rules of the board, or who engages in the business as or serves in the capacity of, or acts as a motor vehicle dealer, salesperson, auction, manufacturer, or distributor in the State or otherwise engages in the business of selling or negotiating for the purchase of motor vehicles in this State without being licensed as provided in this chapter, shall have committed a misdemeanor and be subject to a fine of not more than $1,000, or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
