HRS §490:2A-532
Lessor can recover money for lost value after lease default
If a lessee defaults, the lessor can sue for extra money to cover any loss in the value of the goods that the lessor would have gotten back after the lease. This is on top of other legal remedies. The amount must fully compensate the lessor for that loss.
The statute, as written — Lessor's rights to residual interest
In addition to any other recovery permitted by this article or other law, the lessor may recover from the lessee an amount that will fully compensate the lessor for any loss of or damage to the lessor's residual interest in the goods caused by the default of the lessee.
