Trustee Not Liable for Not Knowing About an Event

If something like a marriage, divorce, or birthday changes how a trust is run or paid out, the trustee is not responsible for losses caused by not knowing about it, as long as the trustee tried reasonably hard to find out.

The statute, as written — Event affecting administration or distribution

If the happening of an event, including marriage, divorce, performance of educational requirements, or attainment of a specific age, birth, or death, affects the administration or distribution of a trust, a trustee who has exercised reasonable care to ascertain the happening of the event shall not be liable for a loss resulting from the trustee's lack of knowledge.
