One share when related in more than one way

If you are related to the person who died in more than one way (like being both a cousin and a nephew), you get only one share of the inheritance. You get the largest share available from any of those relationships. Your children are treated as if they died before the person for the other relationships.

The statute, as written — Individuals related to decedent through more than one line

An individual who is related to the decedent through more than one line of relationship shall be entitled to only a single share based on one line of relationship. If the shares from the lines of relationship are unequal, the individual shall be entitled to the largest share. The individual and the individual's descendants shall be deemed to have predeceased the decedent with respect to the other line or lines of relationship.
