Rules for Setting Child Support Amounts

When a court sets or changes how much a parent must pay for child support, it must follow the official guidelines. The court can only use different amounts if there are special reasons that justify a change.

When the court establishes or modifies the amount of child support required to be paid by a parent, the court shall use the guidelines established under section 576D-7, except when exceptional circumstances warrant departure.
