Lying under oath is a crime

This section says that if someone makes a false statement they do not believe is true, and they make it under oath or under penalty of perjury, they have committed an offense. It applies to statements made in legal proceedings or documents where the law requires or allows such a promise.

A person who makes a false statement which the person does not believe to be true commits an offense whether the false statement is made under an oath required or authorized by law or under "penalty of perjury" as authorized by section 571-55.
