Reliance on federal law

This section says that when Hawaii law mentions or uses federal law, it applies to every marriage recognized in Hawaii as if federal law treated those marriages the same way Hawaii does. This ensures all marriages are treated equally under Hawaii law.

The statute, as written — Reliance on federal law

Any law of this State that refers to, adopts, or relies upon federal law shall apply to all marriages recognized under the laws of this State as if federal law recognized such marriages in the same manner as the laws of this State so that all marriages receive equal treatment.
