Guardian ad litem in adoption cases

In an adoption case, the court can appoint a guardian ad litem for a child if it decides that is best for the child. The guardian's job is to look out for the child's interests. This section only allows the court to make that appointment.

Upon a finding by the court, in any stage of a proceeding under this chapter, that the best interests of a child whose adoption is sought herein will be served by the appointment of a guardian ad litem for said child, the court may appoint a guardian ad litem to preserve, protect and promote the best interests of the child.
