HRS §608-2

Who pays for district court staff and expenses

The State pays the salaries of district judges, clerks, and other assistants, and also pays the judges' expenses. Judges can hire extra court officers or employees if the legislature has set aside money for those positions. Unless a special rule says otherwise, these hires follow the state's civil service rules and any relevant union contract or executive order.
