HRS §634J-6
Filing a motion pauses the lawsuit
If a defendant files a certain motion before trial, the lawsuit is paused. The defendant does not have to respond until 10 days after the motion is denied, or if granted, until 10 days after they provide required security and get written notice. If the motion is filed later, the court decides how long the pause lasts.
