Hawaiian History Month

September is officially called Hawaiian History Month in Hawaii. Its purpose is to teach people about Hawaii's history, honor Queen Liliuokalani, and recognize Native Hawaiian contributions. It is not a state holiday, so it does not change work or school schedules.

The month of September shall be known and designated as "Hawaiian History Month" to promote public awareness of Hawaii's history, honor Queen Liliuokalani, and recognize the contributions of the Native Hawaiian community. This month is not and shall not be construed as a state holiday.
