Statewide program for posting bail any day of the week

The courts, with help from corrections and the attorney general, must set up a program that lets people pay bail any day of the week. This program is for anyone who has a bail amount set by police or a court. Once bail is paid, the person must be released from jail right away.

The judiciary, in consultation with the department of corrections and rehabilitation and the department of the attorney general, shall establish and administer a statewide program that permits the posting of monetary bail seven-days-a-week for defendants who remain in the custody of the director of corrections and rehabilitation. This program shall be made available to any defendant for whom a monetary amount of bail has been set by the police, other law enforcement agency, or the court. The judiciary may contract with a single vendor to administer the program. The vendor may charge users of the program a service fee. Upon posting of bail, the defendant shall be released from custody forthwith.
