Right to a twelve-person jury for serious crimes

If you are charged with a serious crime, you have the right to a trial by a jury of twelve people. A serious crime is one where you could be sent to prison for six months or more.

The statute, as written — Jury of twelve required

Any defendant charged with a serious crime shall have the right to trial by a jury of twelve members. "Serious crime" means any crime for which the defendant may be imprisoned for six months or more.
