HRS §88-12
Rules for Adding Bonuses to Retirement Pensions
This section says that a retirement pension cannot be increased by a bonus unless the person earned enough service time to qualify for the minimum service retirement allowance. There is an exception for people who were already getting a pensioner's bonus on July 1, 1951, without meeting the minimum service requirements. Those people keep the pension they were receiving on June 30, 1955.
