Keeping retirement credit while working for another government

If you work temporarily for another government, you can keep your retirement membership and get credit for that time. This only works if you return to your old job within 90 days and the other government meets all legal requirements.

The statute, as written — Members whose services are on loan to other governments

Any member whose services are on loan to another government, as authorized by section 78-27, shall retain the member's membership and shall receive credit in the system for such service; provided that the member returns to the member's former employment within ninety days after the termination of such service; and provided further that the government receiving the loan of the member's services fulfills all of the requirements of section 78-27.
