Misusing the password or signal

This section covers military law. During wartime, you must not share the secret password or signal with anyone not allowed to have it, and you must not give the wrong password to someone who is allowed. Violations are punished by a court-martial.

The statute, as written — Improper use of countersign

Any person subject to this chapter who in time of war discloses the parole or countersign to any person not entitled to receive it or who gives to another who is entitled to receive and use the parole or countersign a different parole or countersign from that which, to that person's knowledge, the person was authorized and required to give, shall be punished as directed by a court-martial.
