Hiding a serious crime from authorities

If you are covered by this chapter and you know someone committed a serious offense, you must report it to civilian or military authorities as soon as possible. Wrongfully hiding the crime and not reporting it can lead to punishment by a court-martial.

The statute, as written — Misprision of serious offense

Any person subject to this chapter: (1) Who knows that another person has committed a serious offense; and (2) Wrongfully conceals the commission of the offense and fails to make the commission of the offense known to civilian or military authorities as soon as possible, shall be punished as directed by a court-martial.
