HRS §161-37

Rules for poultry not meant for people to eat

This section says that poultry or poultry products not meant for human food do not get the usual inspection. But before they can be sold or moved within Hawaii, they must be treated or marked so people know they are not for eating, unless they are naturally inedible. No one can buy, sell, or transport such poultry unless it is properly marked or naturally inedible.

The statute, as written — Articles not intended for human food

Inspection shall not be made under this chapter at any establishment for the slaughter of poultry or the processing of any carcasses or parts or products of poultry, which are not intended for use as human food, provided that the poultry or poultry products shall, prior to their offer for sale or transportation in intrastate commerce, unless naturally inedible by humans, be denatured or otherwise identified as specified by rule to deter their use for human food. No person shall buy, sell, transport, or offer for sale or transportation, or receive for transportation, in intrastate commerce, any carcasses, parts thereof, poultry, or poultry products of any poultry which are not intended for use as human food unless they are denatured or otherwise identified as required by the rules adopted by the board or are naturally inedible by humans.
