How ferry and terminal claims get paid

The transportation department can pay, settle, or compromise claims from its ferry or terminal operations, but only using money it earned from those operations or from insurance payouts. It sets the rules and conditions for doing so.

The department of transportation may upon such terms and conditions as it may impose and under such rules and regulations as it may adopt, pay claims arising under its operation of ferries or terminals or compromise or settle the claims. No claim shall be paid by the department or any settlement or compromise thereof be made except from its operating revenues derived from its operation of ferries or terminals or from the proceeds of insurance recoveries.
