Vehicle owner is responsible for unsafe vehicle conditions

If a vehicle is found unsafe in a legal case under this part, the person registered as its owner is treated as the one at fault. This section makes the registered owner responsible without needing to prove who else might have caused the problem.

The statute, as written — Registered owner's responsibility; registration plates as prima facie evidence as to the fault of the registered owner

In any proceeding for violation of this part, the registered owner of a vehicle shall be deemed responsible for the unsafe condition of the vehicle.
