HRS §287-26
Insurance coverage for driving someone else's car
This section requires a driver's liability insurance policy to cover the named driver when they use a vehicle they do not own. The coverage applies in the same areas and up to the same dollar limits as an owner's policy. It protects against legal liability for damages from that use.
The statute, as written — Driver's policy requirements
A driver's policy of liability insurance shall insure the person named as insured therein against loss from the liability imposed upon the person by law for damages arising out of the use by the person of any motor vehicle not owned by the person, within the same territorial limits and subject to the same limits of liability as are set forth above with respect to an owner's policy of liability insurance.
