Garages must report damaged vehicles to police
If a garage or repair shop gets a car that looks like it was in a crash that needs a written report, or was hit by a bullet, the person in charge must tell the police within 24 hours. They must give the car's ID number, registration number, and the owner or driver's name and address.

The person in charge of any garage or repair shop to which is brought any motor vehicle that shows evidence of having been involved in a collision of which written report must be made by the driver as provided in chapter 287, or struck by any bullet, shall report to the police department, within twenty-four hours after the motor vehicle is received by the garage or repair shop, giving the vehicle identification number, registration number, and the name and address of the owner or driver of the vehicle.
