What happens if you ignore a traffic summons
If you are the registered owner of a car and you do not respond to a traffic summons or citation within 30 days of it being mailed, the district court will send you a notice that a default judgment has been entered against you.

The statute, as written — -8] Failure to comply with summons or citation
If the registered owner of the motor vehicle does not return an answer in response to a summons or citation within a period of thirty days from the date of the mailing of the summons or citation, the district court shall issue, pursuant to section 291D-7(e), a notice of entry of judgment of default to the registered owner of the motor vehicle.
