Failure to respond to a summons or citation

If you are the registered owner of a car and you do not answer a summons or citation within 30 days of it being mailed, the district court will send you a notice that a default judgment has been entered against you. This section only covers that one step.

The statute, as written — Failure to comply with a summons or citation

If the registered owner of the motor vehicle fails to respond to a summons or citation within thirty days from the date of the mailing of the summons or citation, the district court shall issue a notice of entry of judgment of default to the registered owner of the motor vehicle pursuant to section 291D-7(e).
