Classroom cleaning project

This section sets up a classroom cleaning project for public schools (not charter schools). Schools can let parents, students, or community groups clean classrooms regularly. They can use available resources, but cannot replace full-time custodial staff. Volunteers are allowed.

The statute, as written — Classroom cleaning project; established

(a) There is established a classroom cleaning project in all public schools, excluding charter schools. Each school, through its school community council, may develop mechanisms to provide for classroom cleaning, including but not limited to having parent, student, or other community groups clean the classrooms on a regular, continuing basis. (b) Schools may use any available resources to achieve the purposes of this section; provided that no full-time custodial staff employed at the school shall be displaced. (c) Nothing in this section shall prohibit the use of volunteers for classroom cleaning.
