Asthma training for school staff and families

The Department of Education may create and offer asthma training for teachers and other employees who work with students. The training covers recognizing asthma symptoms and managing asthma. Parents, guardians, and other employees may attend for free. The department decides how often training happens and can work with outside groups.

The statute, as written — Asthma training

(a) The department may develop and provide asthma training to teachers and other department employees who interact with students. Any training provided under this section shall include recognizing the symptoms of asthma and asthma management. (b) The department may allow parents and guardians of students and any other department employee to attend the training at no cost. (c) The department may set the standards and frequency for the training and may coordinate as necessary with any public or private entity to provide the training provided under this section. (d) The department may use existing educational and training resources available in the public and private sectors when developing the training provided under this section.
