Who can collect blood and other samples for the health department

This section lets certain health department workers, called epidemiological specialists, collect blood and other samples from people. They can do this even if other laws would normally stop them. They must work under a doctor's supervision and cannot use catheters.

The statute, as written — Epidemiological specialists

Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, epidemiological specialists may perform blood collection by venipuncture or capillary puncture and other methods of specimen collection, excluding catheterization, when employed by or acting as an agent of the department and when done under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician or osteopathic physician licensed pursuant to chapter 453.
