Hospital visitation and health care decision rights for reciprocal beneficiaries

This law gives a reciprocal beneficiary the same rights as a spouse to visit a patient in the hospital and to make health care decisions for that patient. It applies only to people in a registered reciprocal beneficiary relationship.

The statute, as written — Hospital visitation policy and extension of authority to reciprocal beneficiaries

A reciprocal beneficiary, as defined in chapter 572C, of a patient shall have the same rights as a spouse with respect to visitation and making health care decisions for the patient.
