Free TB tests and court-ordered exams

The health department must give you tuberculosis tests for free if they require or recommend them. If you might have contagious TB and you refuse the tests they order, the health department can ask a court to force you to get tested.

The statute, as written — Examinations for tuberculosis

(a) Examinations for tuberculosis required or recommended by the department of health, including skin tests, x-rays, and other tests as may be appropriate for tuberculosis control purposes, shall be provided by the department at no charge. (b) If any person suspected of having communicable tuberculosis by the department of health refuses to complete the examinations ordered by the department after having been notified by the department that such examinations are necessary, any court of competent jurisdiction, upon application to the court by the department, may order the person to be examined in a manner and by a facility acceptable to the department of health.
