Getting rid of unused medication after a patient dies

If you are in charge of unused medication that was given under this law after a patient dies, you must take it to the nearest place that properly gets rid of controlled substances. If no such place is available, you must get rid of it in a legal way.

The statute, as written — Disposal of unused medication

A person who has custody or control of any unused medication dispensed under this chapter after the death of a qualified patient shall personally deliver the unused medication for disposal to the nearest qualified facility that properly disposes of controlled substances, or if none is available, shall dispose of it by lawful means.
