Extra fees credit unions can charge members

A credit union can charge members for reasonable costs related to loans, like making or collecting them. It can also charge late fees if the member is late, as long as the credit union's rules allow it.

The statute, as written — Other charges

(a) In addition to interest charged on loans, a credit union may charge members all reasonable expenses in connection with the making, closing, disbursing, extending, collecting or renewing of loans. (b) A credit union may assess charges to members, in accordance with the bylaws, for failure to meet their obligations to the credit union in a timely manner.
