HRS §429-8

Judgment against the group is not against members

If a nonprofit association loses a lawsuit, the judgment only applies to the association itself. It does not automatically make any member or manager personally responsible for paying the judgment.

The statute, as written — Effect of judgment or order

A judgment or order against a nonprofit association shall not by itself be a judgment or order against a member or a person authorized to participate in the management of the affairs of the nonprofit association.
