What to do when an insurance application is rejected

If an insurance agent or company turns down your application for car insurance or extra coverage, they must immediately offer to place that coverage with the joint underwriting plan, following the state's rules. This section only covers that offer requirement.

A producer, including a branch office of a foreign or alien insurer, upon rejection of an application for a motor vehicle insurance policy or optional additional insurance, shall immediately offer, subject to the guidelines established by rules of the commissioner, to place the requested insurance coverages with the joint underwriting plan.
