Penalties for breaking insurance rules

If an insurance company or agent breaks a rule in this part, it is also treated as an unfair or deceptive act. This means it can face extra penalties under state law, on top of any other penalties that already apply.

The statute, as written — Penalties

In addition to any other penalties provided by the laws of this State, an insurer or producer that violates a requirement of this part shall be guilty of an unfair or deceptive act or practice in violation of article 13.
