This law applies to a foreign insurance company's U.S. branch that uses Hawaii as its entry point to do business in the United States. That branch must follow all Hawaii insurance laws, just like a company based here, unless the law says otherwise.

The statute, as written — Scope

This article applies to a United States branch using this State as a state of entry to transact insurance in the United States. The United States branch shall be subject to all state laws applicable to an insurer domiciled in this State, unless otherwise provided.
