Insurance contracts made with unlicensed companies can be canceled

If an insurance company that is not allowed to do business in Hawaii makes a contract with you, that contract is not automatically valid. You can cancel it, but the insurance company cannot use the law to cancel it. This protects you from dealing with unlicensed insurers.

The statute, as written — Validity of contracts illegally effectuated

A contract of insurance effectuated by an unauthorized insurer in violation of this article shall be voidable except at the instance of the insurer.
