Which insurance rules apply to mutual benefit societies

This section says that the rules in this article apply to mutual benefit societies. Unless this article says otherwise, these societies do not have to follow the rest of the insurance code. Also, any law passed after July 1, 1988, only applies to them if it specifically names them.

The statute, as written — Scope; exemptions

The provisions of this article shall apply to mutual benefit societies as defined herein. Except as expressly provided in this article, mutual benefit societies shall be exempt from the provisions of the insurance code. No law enacted after July 1, 1988, shall apply to mutual benefit societies unless such societies are expressly designated therein.
