Board member requirements and unpaid service

This section says how board members are chosen and what they must do before starting. They must take an oath before a notary or other official. Board members serve without pay, but the department pays their necessary travel costs if they submit approved vouchers.

The statute, as written — Conditions of office

(a) Each member of a board shall be selected and shall serve under the provisions of section 26-34, and before beginning a term of office, shall take an oath of office before a notary public, or other officer empowered to administer oaths. (b) Each member of a board shall serve without pay. However, the actual and necessary traveling expenses incurred in connection with the performance of the member's official duties shall be paid by the department, upon the presentation of vouchers approved by the department.
