HRS §451K-6
Rules for licensing genetic counselors
The state director will make rules for licensing genetic counselors to keep the public safe. When deciding if someone qualifies, the director can look at their board certification and any past discipline or license denials in other states.
The statute, as written — Licensure requirements
The director shall adopt rules as deemed necessary for the licensure of genetic counselors to protect public health and safety and may consider the following factors as evidence in determining whether an applicant is qualified to be licensed: (1) Board-certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or its equivalent; and (2) A report of any disciplinary action or rejection of license applications or renewals relating to genetic counseling practice taken against the applicant in another jurisdiction.
