Licensing counselors from other states

This section lets the state licensing director make deals with other states that have similar or stricter rules for mental health counselors. If a counselor from that state meets Hawaii's requirements, the director must give them a license. It only covers this reciprocity process.

The statute, as written — Reciprocity

(a) The director may enter into a reciprocity agreement with any state that licenses mental health counselors if the director finds that the state has substantially the same or higher requirements as this chapter. (b) The agreement shall provide that the director shall license any resident of that state who is currently licensed by that state if the individual has met or exceeded the requirements of this chapter.
