County officials' salaries

This section says that every county, including Honolulu, must set the pay for its officials by passing a local law (ordinance). This applies even if other laws say something different. It only covers officials whose salaries are already set by law.

The statute, as written — Compensation of certain county officials

Any law to the contrary notwithstanding, each county, including the city and county of Honolulu, by ordinance shall fix the salaries for its officials whose salaries are presently specifically established by statute or ordinance.
