HRS §462A-14

Pilots can place a lien on a ship for unpaid fees

A licensed pilot who is owed money for piloting a ship can put a lien on that entire ship. This means the ship itself can be held responsible for the unpaid fee. The lien applies to the whole vessel, not just part of it.

The statute, as written — Lien for pilotage fees

Every licensed pilot shall have a lien for the pilot's pilotage fees upon the whole of any vessel liable to the pilot therefor.
