Verifying appraiser licenses before hiring them

This section says appraisal management companies must check that appraisers are properly licensed or certified in Hawaii before hiring them. Companies applying to register or renew must also promise they have a system to check new appraisers' credentials.

The statute, as written — Verification of licensure or certification

(a) An appraisal management company registered in the State may not enter into any contract or agreement with an appraiser for the performance of appraisals in the State unless the company verifies that the appraiser is licensed or certified in good standing in the State. (b) An appraisal management company seeking registration or renewal of registration in the State shall certify that the company has a system and process in place to verify that an individual added to the appraiser panel of the company for appraisal services holds an appraiser license or certification in good standing in this State.
